Waste Water Discharge
Boston Environmental &
Engineering Associates, Inc., a full service environmental engineering and
consulting company located in the Greater Boston area can perform water
waste consulting, compliance, and discharge and/or analysis for your
commercial organization.
Discharge of contaminated waste water (water discharged with specific
chemical or biological contaminants above EPA and/or state limits), has
the potential to contaminate ground water or municipal sewerage treatment
facilities. When discovered, the responsible organizations are frequently
subjected to heavy fines and are often required to shut down the
contaminating process or facility, whether caused by accident,
carelessness, ignorance or purpose. More importantly, they may place at
great risk the health of individuals and communities who depend for
drinking water on water contaminated by the discharge.
The discharge limits for wastewater established by the EPA require states
organizations like the MWRA (Massachusetts Water Resource Authority) to
monitor and enforce the EPA regulation limits. The local organizations can
adjust individual analyte limits, by area or individual discharge permit
to comply with the EPA limits for total, statewide discharge. Boston
Environmental can work with the individual or company (and the state
controlling agency) to design and engineer the necessary monitoring
equipment to meet permit discharge requirements and conduct quarterly
testing to meet quarterly and semiannual reporting requirements.
Since much of the population relies on ground water for their drinking
water; improper disposal of waste water can contaminate the nearby
aquifers which ultimately impacts drinking water drawn from private and
municipal wells, causing widespread chaos in nearby communities. In
addition to its use as drinking water, ground water feeds our lakes and
help recharge our streams and rivers, particularly during dry periods.
Preventing ground water contamination is vital to protecting the drinking
water and to maintaining the quality of our lakes, streams and rivers.
Sewerage treatment facilities are required to monitor their processes to
control the final content of sludge, which when properly treated can be
sold as palletized fertilizer or if contaminated must be hauled out of
state at great expense to be disposed of in controlled, land fills. Thus,
there is a strong incentive for the state to impose draconian penalties on
polluters.
