An underground storage tank (UST) system is a tank (or a number of tanks) and connected piping having at least 10 percent of their combined volume underground. The tank system includes the tank, underground connected piping, underground ancillary equipment, and any containment system.

Boston Environmental offers it's clients a wide complete range of storage tank services to underground storage tank owners and operators. Our services include site assessments, site investigations, tank removal/closure support, and remediation. We can cost-effectively and confidentially address your specific storage tank removal needs.

Once Boston Environmental removes your storage tank it is gone and never needs to be an issue again. The soil surrounding the tank is excavated, the tank is uncovered, a hole cut into the top of the tank, and a workman enters the tank to clean and dry the tank. The tank can then be removed from the ground, whereupon it is inspected for holes and leaks by a representative of the city or town Department of Fire Protection, who by law, must be present. The soil under the tank must then be tested with a field instrument (Photoionzation Detector) to confirm the soil in the tank grave is free of fuel oil contamination. The excavation is then backfilled to grade where it can be paved or seeded as required. Boston Environmental provides the client with a written report indicating the date of removal and location of disposal of the storage tank including a statement that the soil in the tank grave is free of contamination and attaches receipts from the tank disposal yard and a certificate of proper tank removal from the department of fire protection.. If during the course of removing the tank, fuel oil contamination is discovered, Boston Environmental has the resources to discharge the necessary paperwork and filings with the state Department of Environmental Protection and to remediate the fuel oil release on behalf of the client.

Boston Environmental & Engineering of Massachusetts can provide storage tank removal for your residential, commercial, or industrial building.
