Gene Marckini ChE, PE, MBA, CMC, CMR
GENE MARCKINI, president and founder of Boston Environmental & Engineering
Associates, Inc., has been a practicing Chemical, Mechanical and
Environmental Engineer for more than 30 years. He is a Registered
Professional Chemical Engineer in the State of Massachusetts. His
professional affiliations include the past offices of President and Vice
President of the Engineering Societies of New England; member, American
Institute of Chemical Engineers, and American Institute of Mechanical
Engineers and Board of Directors of the American Fiber Optics Association;
Mr. Marckini graduated Northeastern University and holds a Bachelor of
Science in Chemical Engineering, and a Masters of Business Administration,
Executive Program at Columbia University’s, Graduate School of Business.
Mr. Marckini subsequently was certificated in Environmental Engineering by
Northeastern University in 1997, after completing a 4-year, “State of the
Art,” Environmental and Regulatory Management Program for Environmental
Technologies. Mr. Marckini has also completed numerous state of the art,
technical programs sponsored by leading industry technical companies
including among others, the Mold Testing and Remediation training programs
sponsored by EMSL Analytical, Inc., New York, Environmental Microbiology
Laboratories, Inc., San Bruno CA, ProLabs, Inc. Weston FL and the Anabec
Inc., Mold Remediation Training Program. Mr. Marckini is a certificated
Mold Consultant and Remediator and a certificated Mold Remediation Trainer
who conducts mold remediation training throughout the Northeast.
During his professional career, he has worked for three Fortune 500
companies in the chemical, photographic, fiber optic and environmental
industries in various capacities including engineering, engineering
management, manufacturing, sales and marketing, and international
business. His engineering positions have included environmental engineer,
development engineer, production engineer, plant/site engineer, process
engineer, and quality control engineer. His management positions have
included management, senior management, and executive level positions in
research, engineering, program management, and environmental project
management sales and marketing. Prior to founding Boston Environmental &
Engineering Associates Inc., he was Vice President of Environmental
Engineering, for a leading Massachusetts environmental engineering firm.
Mr. Marckini's impressive credentials additionally include a BS ChE (BS Chemical
Engineering), PE (Registered Professional Engineer), MBA, CMC
(Certificated Mold Consultant), CMR (Certificated Mold Remediator), and a
CMRT (Certificated Mold Remediation Trainer).
Herschel Clopper, PhD, ChE, CQE, PMC, CMC
Herschel Clopper, vice-president and senior associate of Boston
Environmental & Engineering Associates, Inc., has been a practicing
Chemical Engineer, Quality Engineer, and Environmental Engineer, and
Professional Consultant for more than 35 years. His professional
affiliations include the past offices of Historian and Staff Instructor
for the Boston Section of the American Society for Quality, and
memberships have included the American Institute of Chemical Engineers,
the American Society for Quality, and the Society of Professional
Consultants. Dr. Clopper presently conducts and directs environmental
investigations for the surveying of sites for contamination of indoor air
quality, for contamination of soil and groundwater; and proposing and
overseeing the execution of remediation plans, and the conducts and
directs the assessment activity for verification of successful
remediation.
Dr. Clopper graduated from Rice University in Houston Texas with a Ph.D.
in Chemical Engineering and from MIT, in Cambridge, MA with
a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, and a Masters of Science in
Chemical Engineering. He holds a Program Managers Certificate awarded by
Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester, MA. Dr. Clopper has also
completed numerous state of the art, technical programs sponsored by
leading industry technical companies including among others, the Mold
Testing and Remediation training programs sponsored by EMSL Analytical,
Inc., New York.
During his professional career, he has worked at five Fortune 500
companies in the chemical, photographic, fiber optic, electronic equipment
development, and environmental industries in various capacities including
research, engineering, manufacturing, management, and plant design and
construction. His engineering positions have included environmental
engineer, development engineer, production engineer, process engineer, and
quality assurance engineer. His management positions have included quality
management in manufacturing, contract procurement, senior management, and
corporate director level positions in research, engineering, project
management, program management, and new product development and
introduction. Prior to joining Boston Environmental & Engineering
Associates Inc., he was Corporate Director of Quality for Hybricon, and a
Principal of CLOPPER CONSULTING, assisting small and moderate sized
companies in the improvement of their internal processes and educational
programs for their employees.
Dr. Clopper’s impressive credentials additionally have included teaching
positions as Assistant Professor at Catholic University, Washington, D.C.,
and Adjunct Professor in the School of Industrial Management and in the
School of Management at WPI. He is presently an Adjunct Professor at the
National Graduate School instructing students across the US.
Helen VanBenschoten ChE, MS, PhD, DIC, CMC
Dr. Helen VanBenschoten, Senior Associate, a Chemical Engineer with more
than 10 years experience, conducts field studies for Boston
Environmental’s Indoor Air Quality clients. These include testing for mold
and mildew, bacteria, dust mites, animal and rodent allergens, combustion
gases, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), semi-volatile organic compounds,
pesticides, herbacides, formaldehyde, metals and heavy metals, nuisance
and respirable dust particles.
From 1990 to 1999 Dr Van Benschoten was employed by a Fortune 500 producer
of automotive and industrial pollution control catalysts as an engineer in
the production area. As a process engineer, she worked on process
improvements, process scale ups, waste-treatment processes, and managed
the company’s technology transfer team. Later, as a process development
engineer she designed and developed new processes.
She received her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering in 2005 from Imperial
College London, UK. Dr. VanBenschoten received an MS in Material Science
from the University of Pennsylvania (2000) and an MS in Material
Engineering from Drexel University (1998). Her BS in Ceramic Science and
Engineering is from the Pennsylvania State University (1990).
Gary Graves, ChE, BS, MS; CMC
Mr. Graves has been a Senior Associate with Boston Environmental &
Engineering Associates, since 2006. Gary has a Master Degree in Chemical
Engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a Bachelor
of Science in Chemical Engineering from Iowa State University and more
than 25 years experience in R&D and Chemical Operations with a Fortune 500
Company. He has significant experience in experimental design and problem
solving and certification in Six Sigma Quality Control. He has extensive
background in process sampling and is very familiar with the rigorous
experimental methods required to deliver reliable data, sound
interpretation, and corrective actions. After joining Boston
Environmental, he continued his studies, and attended certification
programs in Indoor Air Quality Testing & Evaluation and Mold Testing and
Evaluation.
During his professional career, he has worked for and consulted to a
variety of industries, ranging from food and beverage, life sciences,
semiconductor and chemical. He has delivered a wide range of training and
project consultation in Lean and Six Sigma deployments. His specialty
areas are in root cause analysis and experimental methods and as such, he
is exceptionally well prepared to apply this methodology, to the complex
problems associated environmental contamination of the indoor air,
drinking water, ground water wastewater, surface water, and soil.
John F. Tweedie, CH, BS, MS
Mr. Tweedie has been a practicing Chemist for more than 30 years. He is a
graduate of Boston College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry.
He received a Master of Science degree from the University of Pennsylvania
with a specialty in Organic Chemistry.
For 17 years he was the Corporate Environmental, Health, and Safety
Officer for Albany International Corp, the largest manufacturer of fabrics
for paper machine. He regularly conducted audits at plants throughout the
Americas, which included extensive air testing.
Mr. Tweedie also taught in high school and was an Organic Research Chemist
for Wyeth Laboratories in Philadelphia and Arthur D. Little in Cambridge.
He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Safety
Council, a chapter of the National Safety Council. He is a member of the
American Industrial Hygiene Association and the American Chemical Society.
Mr. Tweedie has co-authored seven publications in the Organic Chemistry
field and holds one patent on producing a wound dressing foam.
